The valley of the Neretva Delta in southern Croatia is adorned with orange colors. The region, nicknamed the Golden Valley, is covered with more than a million mandarin trees. Since the 1930s, plantations of mandarins are growing in the heart of a labyrinth of fertile canals. Around 45,000 tonnes of mandarins are harvested, mainly by hand, in Croatia every year from September to December. Today, the mandarin is the most widely grown citrus fruit in the country.

“70% of the tangerines we buy are exported because our customers find their taste and aroma unique and very sweet.”

Katarina TASLAK, Director of a company which sell mandarins in Croatia
